Summary of Box Contents

The second submission of Frances Copthorne materials to the Sibley Music Library
for inclusion in The Frances Copthorne Collection.
Origninal submission, August 2006; this submission December 2007.

====================

One 7.5 inch-per-second reel-to-reel audio tape made in February 1964 by Louise Copthorne Kirtland.  Louise introduces two friends — Mary Helmer (voice) and Connie Knoll (piano) — who perform two of Frances Copthorne's compositions: The Waltz that was Lost in a Dream and Your Voice.  An edited version of this tape was digitized and appears on the CD-R of Frances Copthorne's music mentioned below.

====================

One 3-3/4 inch-per-second reel-to-reel audio tape made sometime in the 1960s by Donald Macdonald, husband of Jane Copthorne Macdonald who was the daughter of Frances Copthorne.  It is a tape dub of several direct-to-acetate-disk recordings of Frances Copthorne compositions made about 1942.  The pianist in all of them is Frances Copthorne.  The singer is probably Norma Bosworth.  The three best quality recordings were audio-equalized and digitized and appear on the CD-R of Frances Copthorne's music mentioned below.  They are:

Let Us Walk In The Snow

I Must Be in Love With You

When Night Comes On

(There is some doubt about the titles of the first two songs since there is no score for Let Us Walk In The Snow, and the available score for I Must Be in Love With You is untitled.)

One recently-printed copy of the Samuel French, Inc. ©1932 script for Charlotte Chorpenning's The Emperor's New Clothes: A Comedy in Three Acts to be played by or for Children.  In a Note on page 7, the author mentions that the play had been performed "by the children of the Chicago Civic Theater on Navy Pier."  This script is still available from Samuel French, and while they no longer sell original printed copies of the music Frances Copthorne wrote to accompany the play, Samuel French does sell photocopies of the music.
