Summary of Box Contents The second submission of Frances Copthorne
materials to the Sibley Music Library ==================== One 7.5 inch-per-second reel-to-reel audio tape made in February 1964 by Louise Copthorne Kirtland. Louise introduces two friends — Mary Helmer (voice) and Connie Knoll (piano) — who perform two of Frances Copthorne's compositions: The Waltz that was Lost in a Dream and Your Voice. An edited version of this tape was digitized and appears on the CD-R of Frances Copthorne's music mentioned below. ==================== One 3-3/4 inch-per-second reel-to-reel audio tape made sometime in the 1960s by Donald Macdonald, husband of Jane Copthorne Macdonald who was the daughter of Frances Copthorne. It is a tape dub of several direct-to-acetate-disk recordings of Frances Copthorne compositions made about 1942. The pianist in all of them is Frances Copthorne. The singer is probably Norma Bosworth. The three best quality recordings were audio-equalized and digitized and appear on the CD-R of Frances Copthorne's music mentioned below. They are: Let Us Walk In The Snow I Must Be in Love With You When Night Comes On (There is some doubt about the titles of the first two songs since there is no score for Let Us Walk In The Snow, and the available score for I Must Be in Love With You is untitled.) ==================== Two copies of a CD-R containing the following performances of Frances Copthorne's compositions: 1 Mischief Moon. In a Note on page 7, the author mentions that the play had been performed "by the children of the Chicago Civic Theater on Navy Pier." This script is still available from Samuel French, and while they no longer sell original printed copies of the music Frances Copthorne wrote to accompany the play, Samuel French does sell photocopies of the music. ==================== One CD-R, viewable in an Internet browser, of that section of Copthorne Macdonald's web site devoted to Frances Copthorne as it existed in December 2007 at http://www.copmacdonald.com/FrancesCopthorne/ ==================== One 11.5" x 14.5" envelope containing musical scores for the "Light Comic Opera" A Romantic Rose Included in the first set of Frances Copthorne materials sent to Sibley Music Library in August 2006 was the libretto for A Romantic Rose, but there were no scores.
